Police will carry out more random weapon searches to reduce knife crime, Victoria's police chief says, as an accused machete attacker fronts court.
A 39-year-old man was injured when the 15-year-old boy allegedly assaulted him with the weapon at St Kilda in Melbourne's south-east.
Police allege the teen and a female approached the victim along Barkly Street on Sunday night, demanding he hand over his car keys and a mobile phone.
