Man facing 35 charges over alleged sexual assault, abduction of hitchhikers in Dandenong Ranges in 1998

A 71-year-old man is facing 35 charges over the alleged abduction and sexual assault of hitchhikers, including a child, in Melbourne's outer east more than 20 years ago.

Police yesterday launched a public appeal, calling for those who hitchhiked in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges in the late 1990s to share their experiences.

Police said Garry Cook allegedly sexually assaulted two female hitchhikers he gave lifts to in separate incidents.
