Millennials moving to regional areas, report finds, as housing affordability and lack of commute pro

A new report assessing population trends in Australia is challenging the perception that young people in the country are itching to leave for the big smoke.

The report, "Big Movers: Population Mobility in Australia", released today looks at population movements and data between the last two national censuses in 2011 and 2016.

It found more regionally-based millennials — people aged between 20 and 35 years old — stayed in the country and moved to other regional areas in Australia, rather than shift to capital cities, during the 2011-2016 period.
