Peak hour commuters in parts of greater Sydney could be hit by severe thunderstorms and large hail similar to that which destroyed buildings and cars in Canberra on Monday.
Damaging winds, large to “giant” hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The bureau has warned people in the storm’s path to take cover indoors, away from windows, keep children and pets indoors, and unplug electrical equipment.
